Reggie's August Report: Camping, Ice Cream & The Great Escape

A note from the dog himself.

August. What a month. I barely know where to begin β€” so I'll start at the beginning, which is, I'm told, the correct place to start.

πŸ•οΈ The Big Holiday

Ten whole days. Camping. With the little people, Mum, Dad, and β€” inevitably β€” Albus.

Now, camping is not something I had strong opinions about beforehand. I have very strong opinions about it now. My verdict: mostly excellent, with some noted exceptions (see below).

The walks were extraordinary. Early morning walks before the world woke up β€” just me, the fresh air, and approximately four miles of very interesting smells. Four miles every day, sometimes more. Beach walks too, with the sea right there, waves practically inviting me in β€” and yet, the lead. The lead. Once again, my swimming ambitions were cruelly curtailed. I have lodged a formal complaint. It was ignored.

Daytime walks happened when the weather permitted, which I'll be honest β€” wasn't always. Most days were muggy and warm, and while everyone else seemed delighted by this, I was less enthusiastic. Hot is, and I cannot stress this enough, overrated.

πŸ” The Missing Burger Incident

I want to be very clear: what happened at the barbecue was not my fault.

A burger fell on the floor. That is simply a fact. What happened next was a swift and professional response to a situation that required immediate attention. I am not going to elaborate further.

There were accusations. Eyes were pointed in my direction. I looked around in a meaningful way that suggested Albus might be worth investigating β€” which, to be fair, was a reasonable suggestion, as he has form. Unfortunately, Albus was asleep under a chair at the time, which somewhat undermined my theory.

However. I think I got away with it. No further comment.

🍦 The Ice Cream

One. I only had one.

But what a fanREGGIEtastic one it was. Worth every mile of every walk. I'm still thinking about it.

🚨 The Great Escape (Starring Albus)

I want it on record that this one was entirely Albus.

Somehow β€” and I still don't fully understand the physics of this β€” he managed to break free of his harness in the middle of the resort and made a beeline straight for a group of dogs. Bigger dogs. Much bigger dogs. Albus, bless him, has absolutely no concept of scale.

Chaos ensued. Everyone was shouting his name. People were getting up to retrieve him. And I β€” being a responsible and helpful member of this household β€” started calling him back myself.

And I got in trouble for it.

Me. In trouble. For helping.

I have thought about this a great deal and I remain baffled. Next time, Albus is on his own. I shall watch from a dignified distance and offer no assistance whatsoever.

πŸ›Œ The Recovery Period

Upon returning home, I assessed the situation and determined that I needed another holiday to recover from the holiday. I slept for approximately three days. This was not laziness β€” this was restoration. There is a difference.

Normal walks have since resumed, the weather has cooled down considerably, and I am β€” privately, and I'll deny this if asked β€” quite pleased about that. Hot is overrated. Autumn walks are underrated. That is my official position.

Right. I'm off to patrol the garden, supervise Dad, and remind Mum when it's treat o'clock.

Until next month, my faithful friends…….
