Reggie's June Report: Heatwaves, Ice Cream & Neighbourhood Watch

Reggie the Rottweiler collapsed on the floor in his harness — too hot to function

A note from the dog himself.

Well, June arrived and brought the sun with it. A lot of sun. Too much sun, if you ask me.

Now, I'm not one to complain (I am absolutely one to complain), but this heatwave has required some serious lifestyle adjustments. My morning walks have been moved to the crack of dawn — before the pavements get hot enough to fry an egg, or more importantly, my paws. Some days, Mum took one look at the forecast and declared it a no-walk day. Honestly? No complaints from me. I had a garden to supervise.

Hydration has been taken very seriously in this household. Extra water bowls appeared as if by magic, and I have been drinking from them with great dignity and purpose. But the real highlight? Dog ice cream. Yes. Ice cream. For dogs. I don't know who invented this, but they deserve an award. I had several. For medicinal purposes.

Most of my June was spent in the garden, sunbathing in the shade — which is, I want to be clear, the correct way to sunbathe. I kept a close eye on the neighbourhood from my post. Nothing gets past me. 🐾

The little people came round at the weekend as usual, which meant chaos, cuddles, and a suspicious amount of dropped food that I dealt with swiftly and professionally. And every Sunday, my best mate Albus — a Jack Russell of considerable character — came to visit. We have an understanding, Albus and I. He's loud, I'm dignified. Together, we are unstoppable.

But the absolute highlight of June? The seaside trip. The little people, Albus, and I packed up and headed to the coast for a few days, and I can confirm: the beach is excellent. The smells alone were worth the journey. Sand between the paws, waves to investigate, and I did manage a very respectable paddle — though the lead had other ideas about a proper swim. Deeply unfair. Albus, predictably, tried to chase every seagull. I watched. I judged. I enjoyed myself enormously.

Sadly, no pictures of me and Albus at the beach — we were having too much fun, so the park day photo above will have to do.

June, you were a good month. Warm, busy, and full of ice cream.

🐾 Reggie's Rating of the Month

Right, I'm off to patrol the garden, supervise Dad, and remind Mum when it's treat o'clock.

Until next month my faithful friends…….
